London-based Analog Motion put its AM1 e-bike on Kickstarter this morning for the launch price of £499, and has so far raised over £14,000 of its £25,000 target.
Should the campaign be successful the e-bike will be shipped to the consumer for at-home assembly.
Analog Motion co-founder Nav Gornall told BikeBiz:
"Many consumers will want it to be assembled and set-up for them as if they were purchasing in a store. For a small fee we will arrange to have the bike shipped directly to a bike store. We will pay the store for the assembly and suggest that the customer also buys accessories there."
This "local assembly" option is part of the Kickstarter campaign.
How come this e-bike is so cheap? It’s no-frills – there are no gears, no fancy LCD screens, and the frame and the battery are lightweight compared to other electric bikes. The AM1 will weigh a claimed 13.5kg, or 30lbs.
However, while other e-bikes have long-range batteries the AM1 is designed for 20 miles or so.
Analog Motion – which was was founded three years ago – has two frame types on Kickstarter, a fixie-style frame and a mixte-frame.
