New finish line for Scotland’s biggest mass cycle ride

Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland, Scotland’s largest bike ride, will finish at rugby stadium Murrayfield.

Edinburgh rugby players Andrew Kelly and Kyle Traynor took part in a PR push to bring the ride to a wider audience. Pedal for Scotland is expected to see around 11,000 cyclists take part across a range of rides for all abilities this weekend (Sunday September 11th).

The new Murrayfield finish line will enable riders to be cheered to the finish line by friends and family.

The event includes:
– Challenge Ride (51 miles)
– £22 adults/£11 children and concessions
-Sportive (100 miles)
– £30
-Edinburgh Family Ride (nine miles) – FREE
-Sky Family Ride (nine miles) – FREE

This year is the first that the ride has teamed up with Sky Ride Glasgow.

Andrew Pankhurst of Cycling Scotland, organiser of the event, said: "Since freshnlo Pedal for Scotland’s launch in 1999 the event has grown year-on-year. With over 9,000 people taking part last year, we are anticipating even more this year so it will be fantastic to finish at such an iconic venue that hosts some of Scotland’s biggest events.

“The stadium is also really accessible so participants’ friends and families can come along and see them cross the finish line."

Councillor Steve Cardownie, festivals and events champion for the City of Edinburgh, added: "The Edinburgh Family Ride is the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a great day out in the fresh air while seeing the sights and getting plenty of exercise. Families taking part will have lots of fun together and create lasting memories of the day."
