National press touts bike as tube strike beater

Several national newspapers are touting the bicycle as an alternative means of travel as London’s tube strikes kick off today.

On Friday last week, the Evening Standard ran a cover story with the headline ‘get on your bikes’, while warning that the hire bike scheme will be in high demand.

Today the Guardian is running an article on ‘how to beat the tube strike’, which can be read on the dedicated cycling page here.

The Metro believes the boats on the Thames will be a popular transport alternative, though similarly says Londoners are likely to turn to the bike with traffic set to be ‘twice as bad as usual’
