Morelle gained a lot of attention when the business announced it would be launching an eBike that would fully charge in less than 15 minutes. That a certain industry veteran/legend – Gary Fisher – is part of the project certainly helped hold the attention of the headline-grabbing technical statement made.

As is all too often the case with pioneering technical innovation, there’s a degree of stop / start in the announcements, coming both as project milestones are reached and media tease is engineered to keep the project in the news cycle.

The latest announcement from Morelle feels more like the former, with technical developments the focal point.

The team highlights that they have been heads down putting the final touches on the Morelle eBike design and spending some time overseas locking in key suppliers for the upcoming first volume eBike build.

Giving a clear indication of project stage, the business shares that they have selected one of the most renowned frame makers to manufacture our custom-designed frame – “remember, we are building an eBike system that is completely novel, requiring a lightweight frame that can accommodate fast charging. We have lined up robust manufacturing, with a team that is very experienced in building high-performance eBikes.”

In addition to the unique battery, Morelle will be including an electronic shifting system – “more details to come”, we’re told.

Looking at timelines, the announcement points out that “our job now is to test prototype builds and make any necessary adjustments. We are still on track for first eBike deliveries in Q1 2026.”

About that less than 15-minute charging speed

This is not trivial, and it will lay the foundation for ubiquitous micromobility fast charging.”

The business further comments, “As we noted before, our battery development has been accelerated by our work on other applications, especially robotics. One of our key partners is UCR — they develop very nimble robots, capable of handling highly variable environments. But these robots use considerable amounts of power, and Morelle’s fast charging batteries greatly improve their operating economics.”

Morelle have two conferences coming up where they will be displaying the fast charge systems suitable for untethered robotics applications. This week, October 15-16, will see the team exhibiting at RoboBusiness in Santa Clara, CA. On December 11-12, the business will be exhibiting at the Humanoids Summit in Mountain View, CA.
