Michaux unveils revamped cycle handbags

Michaux has unveiled its latest range of British-made handbags designed for cyclists, on and off the bike.

Founded by Rachel Bonney, the brand aims to provide bags and accessories that are stylish, but with comfort and safety features making them appropriate for the bike – such as an anti-swing strap to keep bags secure to the body.

The bags are constructed from durable waterproof cotton-canvas, British vegetable-tanned leather and 3M reflective material.

The range now includes a revamped Zodiac bag, with the addition of the Lightening Rucksack and Shadow Saddle Bag.

Bonney took BikeBiz through the key changes in the range: "The brand began with one design; the Zodiac messenger bag, which was designed to transition effortlessly from cycle commute, into the office and out socialising after work; a handbag as well as a sports bag. It was something I wanted myself and couldn’t find in the marketplace, so I developed my own.

"As the business develops and my requirements have evolved, I’ve found myself needing a bigger bag to carry the best part of my office around with me, and so the Lightening roll-top rucksack was developed. Maintaining the smart, sleek feel of the brand was the starting point, as was having the option of a neat, compact bag and a huge hold-all that fits as much as possible. The Lightening rucksack is so diverse it now comes everywhere with me and never looks out of place.

"Our Shadow saddle-bag was developed in anticipation of a long summer. Compact enough to fit all my essentials (purse, keys, phone, notepad, makeup) I can cycle around town visiting friends with it attached to my saddle, and continue on to dinner or dancing with it worn as a shoulder bag or mini-backpack."

Michaux currently retails through its own site, but is open to discussion with potential stockists.

The brand has entered a competition with Stylist in an opportunity to win some business funding. You can take a look and vote here.
