Maxxis has introduced its next-generation downhill tyre construction alongside the new Minion DHX, a dry-condition gravity tread designed for modern downhill racing, bike park use and aggressive eMTB riding.
The launch marks the latest development in the Minion range, which has been a fixture in downhill tyre performance for more than two decades, with Maxxis positioning the new products around greater support, grip and stability for faster, rougher terrain.
According to the brand, the new DH Casing has been developed over more than two years, with input from World Cup athletes and product testing across high-impact gravity conditions.

At the centre of the construction is what Maxxis describes as progressive casing stiffness, intended to keep the tyre supple over smaller impacts while increasing sidewall support as cornering and impact forces build.
The company says the increased support allows riders to reduce tyre pressure by around 2-3psi compared with the previous-generation DH casing. Lower pressures are designed to improve terrain conformity, slow tyre rebound and create a calmer, more planted feel through rough sections.
Maxxis also highlights improved puncture protection and a weight comparable to the outgoing DH casing, with the construction intended to let riders tune pressure for performance rather than simply preventing sidewall rollover or rim strikes.
Minion DHX added to gravity line-up
The new Minion DHX has been developed as a dry-condition gravity tread for riders seeking grip and support in fast, high-load conditions.
The tread features reinforced shoulder knobs designed to resist folding during aggressive cornering, while shallow siping is intended to help the tread surface conform to the trail and increase mechanical grip.
Maxxis says the DHX delivers greater stability through high-speed turns and a smooth transition from centre tread to shoulder knobs, with rolling speed and braking performance said to be comparable to the DHR II.

The tyre is designed for front or rear use and is aimed at downhill racing, bike park riding and aggressive eMTB applications, where higher speeds and increased loads place greater demands on tyres.
All models in the new DH Casing line-up are tubeless ready, use Maxxis’ 3C MaxxGrip compound with a 2×120 TPI construction, and carry an SRP of £79.99.
