Lyon Equipment has announced it is to distribute the ViewRanger product range in the UK cycle and outdoor markets – including the firm’s ‘app’s.
Turning smartphones into outdoor mapping, navigation and information devices, ViewRanger’s software ‘apps’ delivers highly detailed Ordnance Survey maps onto iPhone, Android and Symbian-running handsets.
Features include a 3D panoramic view, the Buddy Beacon live tracking and friend locator, a sports computer and works with social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
“We believe that the convergence of technologies, combined with the acceleration of smartphone sales means that increasingly people want to use their mobile phone as a navigation device rather than buy separate GPS units,” said Craig Wareham, co-founder and CEO of ViewRanger.
“Building on the high quality reputation that ViewRanger has established, we need to ensure that we capitalise on this within the bike and outdoor markets. Lyon Equipment is the perfect partner for us as they are probably the most knowledgeable and respected channel partner in the UK trade.”
Lyon Equipment’s Frank Bennett added: "We feel that ViewRanger represents the future of outdoor navigation, and really makes a compelling option for any specialist retailer.”
