London to get Tour de France start next year

An announcement about the event will be made in Paris on January 24th. Another press conference has been scheduled for London on February 10th.

The Indie and CW report that the Tour has never previously held a press conference to announce a failed bid to host the race.

“A press conference will be held here in France on 24 January and another in London on 10 February,” an ASO spokesman told The Independent.

“Both involve London’s Tour bid.”

If successful – and that now looks to be a dead cert – London would get the prologue and up to two further stages.
