We catch up with the VOS Media team behind the Excel supershow to find out how the event will progress in 2013

London Bike Show: preview and exhibitor list

The third London Bike Show is just around the corner, kicking off on Thursday 17th of this month. BikeBiz previews the event with Vos Media’s senior marketing executive Ian Chandler…

The London Bike Show part of the event is now in its third year. How much has it grown?
The London Bike Show has grown 367 per cent in size since the launch show in 2011.

All the team launches are a bit of a coup, is that due to the timing of the show fitting in well with the racing calendar?
It’s great to have three teams launching at the 2013 show. The timing’s key with it being at the beginning of the year, but also many of the brands involved with the teams are also involved with the show – so it makes perfect sense to tie these together.

The show offers teams a great platform to launch in front of thousands of public visitors and a large percentage of media and trade visitors.

The IG London Nocturne also provides teams with the opportunity to race following the launches.

The London Bike Show is primarily a consumer show. Is including a trade day too much of a logistical challenge with all the other shows [Active Travel Show, Outdoors Show and London Boat Show] going on at the same time? And are you looking at including one at some point in the future?

With the co-location of the other shows, and the content within The London Bike Show, it would be very difficult to make a trade day feasible. The show is very much a consumer show, and we are set to have more retailers at the 2013 show than we’ve ever had before. We want visitors to be able to come to the show, and take home not just a wealth of information, but also new kit, accessories or even a new bike.

Having a separate trade day seems to work for the Cycle Show, but the event has always sat on the border of whether it’s a trade or a consumer exhibition.

We know that a large amount of trade business is conducted during the show – and we of course listen to the needs of both our exhibitors and trade partners. If the feeling is that a trade day is needed we will of course look at meeting the needs of this fast growing industry.

We’re pleased to welcome trade visitors to the show and the show offers a great networking opportunity. We offer a fun, relaxed environment to meet with peers and catch up with the bike industry.

Any other key reasons why the trade should head to London’s ExCeL in January?
The London Bike Show provides an excellent opportunity to network and to see the latest bikes, innovations and accessories. January is traditionally a bit of a slow month and the event helps get the industry off to a fast start. The IG London Nocturne promises to be a fantastic spectacle and the industry race will be hotly contested I’m sure.

The London Bike Show runs from Thursday 17th January to Sunday Jan 20th 2013.
