The Moulton Bicycle Company has announced a limited run of 191 Moulton 60 bikes – based around the classic original design, but with the perk of using recent advances in steel technology.
Striking a near perfect resemblance to the iconic style of the 1960s-built bikes, the ride is said to be as sturdy as that offered by non-folding steel bicycles. As with every Moulton bicycle manufactured since 1962, the build features Alex Moulton’s famous bicycle suspension – both front and rear.
The 60 comes equip with a Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub gear, offering a range from 25" to 102". Every joint is silver brazed, and the entire frameset is polished to a mirror finish. Flat and drop bar models are available. Each is built in the firm’s Bradford Upon Avon factory.
The Moulton 60 is available to order now (though over half of the total production has already been reserved by Moulton distributors) and deliveries are expected to commence in December 2011.
To honour his outstanding fifty-year commitment to Dr. Alex Moulton and the Moulton bicycle, number 001 was presented to Mr. Timmy Bigwood at the Moulton Bicycle Club Weekend in September. Timmy, fresh out of school, started work for Moulton in early 1962, shortly before the launch of the original Moulton bicycle. He has remained in continuous employment with the company ever since.
