In yesterday's Daily Telegraph there was a wee advert in the 'businesses for sale' section for a BMX and skateboard company. Upon going to the selling agent's website it turns out the company, which sources its products from the Far East and is based conveniently close to medical facilities, is "unaffected by competition, having established a worldwide brand leader position. It could be assumed that where this company leads, others may only try to follow." Who could it be? Any Second guesses, or would that be splitting?

Let the guessing commence: £2m BMX company up for sale

The asking price is £2m and the founder is selling because he "does not have the interpersonal, management, supervisory and communication skills to develop this successful business to the next level."

Here are more choice snippets from the sale memorandum on http://www.turnerandco.com

"The company owns an established brand name, and an extensive product line, which is recognised worldwide for its high quality, and innovative designs.

"Having originally commenced trading as a retailer some years ago, the company quickly evolved into a brand leader, and established a worldwide network of distribution channels. The network currently includes distributors in several countries, and many bicycle dealers within the United Kingdom, including one of the largest mass merchandisers in the United Kingdom.

"The company mission is to design, manufacture, market and distribute moderately priced but high quality BMX cycles, skateboards and accessories.

"This company owns its established brand name…and has significant upside potential. With the current distribution channels in place, there is further incredible opportunity for expanding sales of products through a systematic marketing and promotional effort, either at store level or through media advertising.

"Uncompromising in its commitment to quality and attention to detail, this company designs frames, parts, models and specifications – with attitude – establishing the product range as one of the premier sports brands. It has ensured its personnel conform to the required levels of technical, professional and quality standards, and has developed close working relationships with its trusted manufacturers based in Taiwan and China.

"This company operates from self-contained offices and warehouse premises on a modern business park, conveniently located to all amenities. Easy motorway access, train station and airport are both within eight miles. Shopping and medical facilities are both situated within half a mile.

"This company is mainly unaffected by competition, having established a worldwide brand leader position. It could be assumed that where this company leads, others may only try to follow.

"Market Outlook: Excellent.

"Today, this company is already growing and expanding internationally under the same business philosophy used since its beginning. By its focus of building strong relationships and understanding of the needs of its manufacturers, retailers and riders there should be no limit to further growth and expansion."
