Job Title: Senior Road Bike Mechanic & Custom Builder

Location: Mapdec Cycle Works

Hours: Full-Time | Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (No weekends! Includes one late evening shift per week during winter.)

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000

About Mapdec Cycle Works

Mapdec isn’t your average bike shop. We are a hybrid high-end workshop, custom build center, bike fitting studio, and active cycling media outlet. We produce regular YouTube content, offer excellent mechanics, and support a passionate local riding community. If you live and breathe road cycling, have a fine eye for detail, and want a role that extends beyond the repair stand, Mapdec is where you belong.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, technical-minded Bicycle Mechanic to join our core team. You will handle everything from high-end custom builds and complex diagnostics and being involved in all aspects of the business. We specifically need a road cycling enthusiast who will ride with local clubs, partake in and travel to brand events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Custom Builds & Quoting: Lead bespoke road and gravel builds from frame selection to perfect tyre pressure, including drafting detailed, accurate quotes for customers.
  • Workshop Operations: Execute routine servicing, advanced repairs, electronic drivetrain diagnostics (Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS), hydraulic brake systems, and internal cable routing, suspension, wheel building, and ebikes.
  • Bike Fitting Integration: Assist with or learn bike fitting protocols to tailor builds precisely to rider biomechanics.
  • On-Camera Content Creation: Present your work, explain technical breakdown concepts, and host segments for the Mapdec YouTube channel and social media platforms.
  • Community Engagement: Represent Mapdec within the local cycling scene and maintain our high standards of customer interaction.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Industry Experience: Demonstrated experience working in a high-end bicycle workshop with expertise in modern road/gravel standards.
  • Technical Excellence: Deep technical knowledge of modern road technology (integrated cockpits, press-fit/threaded BB standards, power meters, tubeless setups).
  • Camera Confidence: Comfortable presenting technical topics clearly on camera (videography skills are a bonus, but not required—we handle the production).
  • Community Driven: An active participant in the local cycling scene who genuinely loves talking bikes with customers and enthusiasts.
  • Organization & Detail: Methodical approach to work, clear communication when writing up quotes, and pride in workshop cleanliness.

Perks & Benefits

  • No Weekend Work: Enjoy your weekends riding with a fixed Monday–Friday schedule (10am–6pm).
  • Health & Wellness: Free Bupa Healthcare Insurance coverage.
  • On-Site Gym: Free membership to Strength 2 Speed, the strength & performance gym located right inside Mapdec.
  • Industry Discounts: Access to staff pricing on parts, components, and gear.
  • Creative Freedom: Be part of a dynamic, content-producing team where your technical expertise directly shapes our media output.
