Applicants will need to have experience working as a bicycle mechanic on a variety of bike types. The more you know about bikes in both nerdy & general sense, the better. And if you possess an eye for detail and a logical mindset then that would serve you well in the role.

Both senior & junior positions will be considered, so long as you can perform the duties below in a largely independent way, then we would love to hear from you.

Duties:

  • Perform inspections & troubleshooting tasks; drawing from your experience & technical knowledge, and/or by consulting with your team members.
  • Produce multiple quote options per bike, and demonstrate understanding & flexibility when recommending solutions & making agreements with customers.
  • Carry out repairs & services to a high standard, so that every bike that leaves the shop is safe to ride away, and fulfils customer expectations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues & customers, both in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Ensure that all inventory items have been accurately accounted for on your worksheets, and that your workbench & the surrounding area is clean and tidy at the end of each day.

Requirements:

  • Experience as a bicycle mechanic (it doesn’t really matter where, or for how long).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
  • Willingness to learn on the job, and be open to new ways of tackling problems.
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Bonus: Wheel building & custom building experience. We build a lot of wheels in-house, and take on lots of custom build projects.
  • Extra Bonus:  Cytech / Brompton / Bosch / Shimano STEPS & Di2 trained.

About the workshop:

  • Large open plan ground floor workshop bays (3 x double workstations). Plenty of space to move around in. Useful for cargo bikes.
  • Each mechanic has their own dedicated workbench and tool set.
  • The workshop boasts a vast selection of tooling, and equipment. We are always expanding & maintaining our workshops so we can repair everything and anything to a high standard.
  • Organised bike intake & collection procedure, so that bikes are well looked after, and the workshop is kept clear as much as possible.
  • Efficient stock allocation, picking & ordering system. We use HubTiger + Lightspeed in combination with physical stock management processes.
  • Range of demo cargo & commuter bikes in stock. Omnium, Bullitt & Veloe are our key brands.
  • Dedicated front of house & management team, who deal with almost all of the customer facing duties, so mechanics can concentrate on their tasks, and keep bikes moving through the workstands.
  • Dog friendly workplace. There are a few staff dogs in the workshop every now and then, and customers regularly bring their dogs with them.
  • On-site shower, staff area & staff bike storage.
  • Open Monday to Saturday. Closed Sundays, Bank Holidays and for a week or so at each year end.

Offer:

  • London Living Wage as a minimum hourly rate (currently £13.15/h). We will also be happy to negotiate around a higher rate of pay, depending on your experience & productivity.
  • Flexible and/or regular working hours (35 to 45 hours per week)

  • Cycle to work scheme (CycleScheme)
  • Access to demo bikes, trade purchasing, and other industry perks.
