Bicycle Workshop Manager / Senior Mechanic

Way Cycles is looking for an experienced Bicycle Workshop Manager / Senior Mechanic to join our independent bike shop in Stoke Newington, North London.

We are a busy, well-established workshop with nearly 900 five-star Google reviews and a strong local reputation for high-quality repairs, honest advice and excellent customer service.

This is a hands-on role combining advanced mechanical work with responsibility for the daily organisation and performance of the workshop. You will take ownership of day-to-day workshop operations, lead the team and ensure our standards are consistently maintained.

Excellent customer service is central to everything we do. The successful candidate must be approachable, communicate clearly and confidently, and genuinely enjoy helping customers. This position requires both strong technical ability and a customer-first approach.

Key responsibilities:

• Service and repair a wide range of bicycles
• Diagnose mechanical problems and recommend appropriate repairs
• Manage the daily workshop schedule and allocate jobs effectively
• Prioritise repairs and ensure work is completed on time
• Quality-check completed bikes and maintain high safety standards
• Prepare accurate repair estimates and identify required parts
• Explain repairs, options and costs clearly and honestly
• Keep customers informed throughout the repair process
• Handle customer questions and concerns professionally
• Support and guide other workshop team members
• Assist with stock control and workshop parts ordering
• Keep the workshop clean, organised and efficient

The ideal candidate will:

• Have several years of professional bicycle mechanic experience
• Have strong knowledge of modern bicycle components, hydraulic braking systems and repair procedures
• Be confident carrying out advanced repairs and diagnostics
• Have experience leading a workshop or the ability to step into a management position
• Be highly organised and capable of managing multiple jobs and deadlines
• Have excellent customer service and communication skills
• Be approachable, patient and confident when dealing with customers
• Be reliable, responsible and able to work independently
• Work well as part of a small team
• Have the right to work in the UK

Experience with Bosch e-bike systems, cargo bikes, electronic gearing or wheel building would be an advantage.

Pay, hours and benefits:

• £32,000–£38,000 per year, depending on experience
• Full-time, permanent employment
• 45 paid hours per week over five days, including Saturdays
• Two days off each week: Sunday and one weekday
• 28 days of paid annual leave, including bank holidays
• Bikes and parts available to staff at cost price for personal use
