JD Sports acquires Canterbury Europe

JD Sports has acquired Canterbury Europe, which had been placed in administration, for £6.5 million.

The brand, which manufacturers base layers primarily for both the cycle and rugby markets, was established in New Zealand over 100 years ago.

Peter Cowgill, executive chairman of JD, said: ‘We are delighted with the acquisition of the Canterbury, which will further diversify the group’s overall interests in the sports and related leisurewear markets.’
