The company was founded by engineers and lifelong cyclists with experience in downhill and enduro racing, cycle commuting, and cargo bike transport. The move to launch a new site and details of the production-spec design of the GD8 Gearbox Drive Unit comes after eight years of development.

The GD8 combines an eight-speed gearbox and motor into a single, compact unit, eliminating derailleur systems. Intradrive is ready to begin pilot production to send units out to bike brands for testing.

The Edinburgh-based brand is now looking to raise investment to scale production of their new drive units. The company have already invested in production tooling and partnered with European manufacturers to begin production. They have also invested in equipment allowing them to do in-house quality checks and end-of-line testing.

We’ve refined, industrialised, and optimised a product that’s been highly praised in prototype testing by bike brands. The GD8 represents a game-changing step forward in e-bike drivetrain technology, eliminating derailleur systems and prioritising durability, performance, and long-term value. – Mark Ravilious, Founder at Intradrive.

Intradrive says that by replacing derailleur systems, the GD8 offers e-bike manufacturers a drivetrain that reduces maintenance, improves reliability and enhances the overall user experience, delivering a premium feel and performance.
