Second annual Leaders' Ride to be staged August 31st at Eurobike

Industry leaders to open Eurobike after bike-path advocacy ride

Top executives from the world’s leading cycle firms will ride together to open Eurobike. The Leaders’ Ride is organised by the Cycling Industry Club, an initiative of the European Cyclists’ Federation, and is supported by the organisers of Eurobike, which is staged next week in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

BikeBiz was at the first Leaders’ Ride, staged last year, and recorded audio interviews with execs as they pedalled. SRAM founder F.K. Day said: “I’m much more passionate about growing the market than grabbing more market share."

Again leading the ride will be Cycleurope president Tony Grimaldi, chairman of Cycling Industry Club’s advisory board. He said: “We have seen the impressive results of advocacy in increasing market sales and we are only at the beginning. We want to send a strong message: The cycling industry and Eurobike unite for advocacy because it is good for business."

Eurobike boss Stefan Reisinger said:

"We are happy that many [execs] from the global bike industry are travelling the last mile to Eurobike by bike, and thus making a great statement about cycling mobility."

ECF’s Kevin Mayne, leader of the Cycling Industry Club, said: "If cycling in Europe doubled that would result in 10 million more bikes sold per year. If cycling levels matched those of Denmark, the respective increase would go as high as 30 million more bikes per year."

The Leaders’ Ride is scheduled for August 31st, starting at the Friedrichshafen Stadt train station at 7.30am.
