HKT Products has announced a significant update to its manufacturing process, transitioning its custom mudguard production to 100% post-industrial recycled polypropylene (PP).

The brand says the move forms part of a wider initiative titled ‘More Than Material’, focused on reducing waste and improving material responsibility without compromising quality. From December 1st onward, all HKT custom mudguards will be produced using recycled material, with the brand’s stock mudguard range set to follow gradually as existing inventory sells through and new production runs begin.

Why Post-Industrial Recycled PP?

According to HKT, unlike post-consumer recycled plastics, post-industrial recycled polypropylene is created from clean manufacturing off-cuts and trimmings generated during normal industrial production. The material has never reached consumers, which means it remains consistent, uncontaminated, and suited to performance-driven applications.

For HKT, they say this offers a genuine opportunity to reduce reliance on virgin plastic while maintaining the durability, flexibility, and quality our customers expect from its UK-manufactured products.

Performance Comes First

Thanks to their extensive testing, HKT confirmed that the recycled PP delivers the same strength, flexibility, and functional performance as the virgin material previously used. Pricing, fit, and manufacturing processes remain unchanged. The only visible difference customers may notice is minor shade variation or small surface inclusions, a natural characteristic of recycled material that does not affect performance or longevity.

A Practical Step, Not a Marketing Claim

“More Than Material isn’t about claiming we’ve solved sustainability,” says Oliver Green, Founder of HKT Products.

“It’s about taking responsibility for the materials we use and making realistic improvements where we can. This change reduces waste, keeps material in circulation, and lets us continue making products in the UK without compromising on quality.”

The recycled PP used by HKT is halogen-free, non-toxic, and 100% recyclable, and aligns with wider industry efforts to improve material circularity.

Phased Rollout Across the Range

● Custom mudguards: now produced exclusively using recycled PP

● Stock mudguards: transitioning as current stock sells through. This phased approach ensures continuity of supply while moving the entire HKT mudguard family in a more responsible direction.

More Than Material

The brand says this transition marks the first step in its wider “More Than Material” initiative, which aims to highlight the thinking, process, and responsibility behind product design and not just the finished item. Further updates and behind-the-scenes insight into the material change will be shared across HKT’s channels in the coming weeks.
