Following on from the Channel 4 documentary which aired on December 29th, Guy Martin’s new book Speed: How to make things go fast, has gone on sale.
If you missed the programme it’s now found on 4OD.
Available to bike and book stores via Ebury Publishing, the title recounts the challenges facing Martin and his team as they went about propelling a bicycle to 112 mph. That’s not all, however, the title also reveals the science behind speed, as well as other challenges undertaken by Martin, including building the world’s first human-powered aircraft; hydroplaning a modified motocross across a 2k lake and breaking speed records in a toboggan.
In attempting and breaking the land speed record on a bicycle, Martin and his team placed their faith in UK bicycle manufacturer Reynolds to construct a steel frame worthy of the challenge. Sticking with UK manufacturers, Hope supplied the brakes and select components, while tyre advice was sought from Continental. The custom drivetrain revolved the wheel seven and a half times for one revolution of the crank.
The hardback title retails for £20 and is available to the trade via Ebury Publishing, contactable on 020 7840 8400.
