The new VauDe Scream jacket - suitable for cycling - was given its UK launch at the Harrogate show. But Scream wasn't its original name, hoh no...

GO OUTDOORS: VauDe UK saves German blushes

In the catalogue it’s called the Jerry.

VauDe is a German company.

When the new catalogue arrived hot off the press from Germany, UK distribution company reps nearly choked on their coffee when they saw the Jerry jacket.

A quick phonecall to VauDe HQ alerted the German staff to the faux pas.

"You know what Jerry means, don’t you?" asked a VauDe rep.

"It’s a boy’s name," came the answer from Germany.

An explanation followed.

"Schisse…" Phone went dead.

The UK operation has renamed the jacket. It’s to be known as Scream but check out the catalogue for the original name.
