Giant has announced that it is to invest $15 million in a new factory to be built in Kunshan, China.
The proposed 500 acre site would be dedicated to the production of frames, forks and the assembly of complete bicycles. Construction will begin within the next few months.
The company is also planning to expand production at its six existing plants in China in the face of rising domestic demand.
A new RMB20 million production line will be installed in its largest plant in Tianjin City, boosting annual output by a third from the current 1m units.
Giant turned out 4.2m bikes in China in 2009 and aims to increase this to 5m units this year.
