Ghost Bikes scores two design awards

The Ghost bike brand has won two Red Dot Design Awards for the Ghost RT Lector Pro Team and the Ghost HTX Lector Pro Team bikes.

The bikes competed against 4,433 products in the product design category, submitted by designers and companies from 60 countries.

Both won for ‘high design quality’ and will be on display with the other prize winning products from July 5th to August 1st 2011 in an exhibition at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.

“As always, our jury cast a very careful eye over the products submitted,” said Red Dot initiator Professor Dr. Peter Zec. “Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. This potential is increased several times over by the targeted use of our renowned design award.”

The brand said: “When we designed and constructed the Ghost RT, our goal was to combine optimum damper performance with the speed of a hardtail. Our top model RT Lector Pro Team features premium components made by Tune, DT Swiss and Sram, thus achieving a weight of approximately 9 kg overall.

“The design of the new Ghost HTX combines the propulsion of a super-light hardtail with the comfort of a full-suspension. In addition to weight reduction, comfort on the bicycle was a top priority during our redesigning process. The top model HTX Lector Pro Team features ultra-premium components, thus achieving a weight of approximately 8 kg overall.”

The prestigious Red Dot Design Awards were founded in the 1950s. Last year almost 14,000 entries from 68 countries were made.

Ghost Bikes are available to the UK trade via Hotlines.
