Genesis has launched the Croix de Fer 60, the first electrically assisted model in its long-running Croix de Fer adventure platform.
The new e-gravel bike uses Mahle’s XS system, combining an X20 rear hub motor with a 171Wh external battery and slimline battery management system. Genesis says the full drive system weighs 2.6kg, allowing the brand to retain the steel bike’s handling, balance and ride feel.
Sam Lawson, product manager for the Croix de Fer 60, said: “The brief was never to simply build an electric bike. It was to build a Croix de Fer that happened to offer electric assistance. If it didn’t ride like a Croix de Fer, we weren’t interested.”
Built around the latest Croix de Fer frame, the 60 features updated tube profiles, revised seat stays and tyre clearance of up to 47c, positioning it for gravel riding, bikepacking, commuting and long-distance use.
Marco de la Serna, head of strategy and business at Mahle SmartBike Systems, said the lightweight XS system expands what riders can do while preserving the ride feel of the original Croix de Fer.
Genesis said the project was developed over almost eight years, with prototypes tested across the UK, Taiwan and Spain. Early mid-drive concepts were rejected because they added too much weight to retain the character of the platform.
The Genesis Croix de Fer 60 is available now through Genesis retailers and on Sportline B2B, with an SRP of £4,499.99. European pricing is listed at €5,199.
