Gaspare Licata Acquires Majority Stake in Extreme Racing Shox

A group of private strategic investors led by former Crankbrothers CEO Gaspare Licata has acquired a majority stake in Extreme Racing Shox (EXT), the Italian manufacturer of high-performance suspension systems for bicycle and motorsports applications.

I’ve admired EXT’s factory, engineering culture, and the people behind it for years. This acquisition allows us to build on that foundation with the flexibility and focus that a privately led structure enables. The company has untapped potential in both the bicycle and motorsports categories, and I’m committed to honoring its heritage whilst pushing it to fulfil that potential – Gaspare Licata

The investment will consolidate the partnership between existing shareholders and allow EXT to build on its engineering prowess and enduring legacy.

Here are further details from the release:

A year of change

The passing of EXT founder and technical director Franco Fratton in April 2025 left the company at an important juncture. Under Fratton’s guidance, EXT built its reputation on meticulous engineering and elite-level performance. Former owner Katia Persico determined that new investment and an experienced leadership team were vital to secure the company’s future.

After Franco’s passing, it became clear the company needed partners who understood both our values and the technical depth of the brand. While larger companies expressed interest, what mattered most to me was preserving EXT’s technical excellence and relationship-driven approach. Gaspare and his team share that philosophy, which is why this partnership made sense – Katia Persico

A long-time friend of both Fratton and Persico, Licata felt a responsibility to help guide EXT into its next phase – growing the company whilst also preserving the craftsmanship, authenticity, and human connection that have defined its culture to date.

The investment and new leadership framework will honour Fratton’s legacy, providing additional finance to drive the next chapter of technological innovation.

Expertise and shared vision

Licata, who entered the cycling industry in 2009 and revitalised Crankbrothers’ market presence during his time as CEO, has long coveted EXT’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities. He sees great potential in the company’s proven technological platforms, its motorsports engineering pedigree, and the depth of workforce talent.

Looking to the future

Under the new ownership structure, EXT plans to invest in new technologies that elevate its products’ performance. The company will strengthen its global dealer and distributor relationships and enhance supply chain capabilities while preserving its high-precision, Italian-based manufacturing model.

EXT will continue to serve as an R&D partner to leading motorsports racing teams and bring advanced suspension solutions to market segments, including mountain bike, motocross, e-moto, UTV/SSV, ATV/Quad, and kart cross, where the brand already offers a comprehensive range of products for its consumers.
