Aluminium and carbon mated with exclusive moulding tech on rims

Fulcrum introduces ‘Red Wind’ wheel line

Fulcrum has this morning released information on a new line of high-profilealuminium/carbon wheels dubbed ‘Red Wind’.

The new Red Wind Series has been designed and developed with the aim of perfectly integrating two materials that make up the rim: an aluminium rim and the carbon body. Thanks to the implementation of an exclusive coupling process between the aluminium rim and the carbon structure, the rim is extremely rigid, which allows for excellent responsiveness and outstanding durability of the wheel.

Moreover, thanks to the exclusive moulding system of the rim with non-primed carbon, the weight has been dramatically reduced and the surface has no imperfections.

The wheels also see the implementation of ‘directional rim-spoke coupling’ – a system that distributes even spoke tension across the entire wheel – resulting in a steady and responsive ride.

Manufactured in three different rim heights – 50, 80 and 105mm – and with three bearing choices available to the buyer, ranging from sealed, through ceramic USB and ceramic ‘Cult’ bearings, the wheels are customisable to a customer’s performance requirements.

Red Wind XLR, which represents the top wheel of this segment, will be available in two different profiles for the aluminium rim: a traditional profile for clinchers and the innovative 2-way fit profile, which allows use of both traditional and tubeless clinchers.

For cyclocross fans, Fulcrum has decided to design the 50mm Red Wind XLRCX, fitted with a special double bearing seal that protects the ball bearings from water and mud, providing long term performance.

Expect to see Red Wind launche din two colours to begin with – dubbed ‘bright label’ and dark label’.
