BikeBiz executive editor Carlton Reid is going on the road to promote his history book Roads Were Not Built For Cars. Last month he gave a book talk to the Congressional Bike Caucus in a budget committee room in a congressional building in Washington, D.C., and next month he’ll be taking his laptop and projector to Edinburgh Bicycle as part of the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling.
Reid’s "world tour" involves taking part in the closing plenary at cycle conference Velo-city in Nantes, France, and he will also talk in Cardiff and Canterbury as well as at the London HQ of Sustrans. In Bristol, Reid will be revealing the linked history of cycling and motoring to the staff of ethical Dutch bank Triodos at a lunchtime presentation; in the evening he will be speaking in cycle cafe Roll for the Soul at the AGM of the Bristol Cycling Campaign.
In April, Reid was the first speaker at the soon-to-open Marin Museum of Bicycling in Fairfax, California – the entrance fee for the talk raised almost $1000 for the museum, which also now hosts the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Future appearances – not yet fixed on Reid’s online schedule – include Sheffield and Salt Lake City.
