Susan Achmatowicz is no stranger to such plaudits, earlier this year she was hailed as ‘one of Britain’s most enterprising rural women’ in Country Living magazine’s Enterprising Rural Women Awards.

Founder of Country Lanes shortlisted for Wessex Business Woman of the Year Award 2002

The Countess of Wessex will announce the winner at an award presentation lunch

on Friday 11th October 2002 at the Ordnance Survey Business Centre in Southampton. The event is in aid of the Winged Fellowship Trust, a charity that provides holidays for disabled people and their carers.

Achmatowicz is a Canadian-born MBA graduate, who came to the UK in 1983 after being offered a graduate-in-training position with a US merchant bank. Within five years she was Vice President of a 200-strong team of Global Markets Operations staff based in the City of London.

She created cycle holiday company Country Lanes in 1993 with little knowledge of tourism or the travel industry.

"I’ve been fortunate and had the opportunity to develop a career portfolio that includes both corporate senior director and small business entrepreneur,’ said Achmatowicz.

"I’ve learned lessons along the way and have always believed in openly sharing my experiences of the business world. I hope that this award scheme will encourage more women into business."
