Evans expands north of the border

"This is the first time in our 80+ year history that we have ventured outside of the south east," said Evans MD Mike Rice.

The new Evans store – the chain’s biggest – will be at the Xscape complex in Castleford, a retail hub surrounded by an indoor ski slope, climbing walls, cinema, bowling alley, bars and restaurants.

“Xscape is a dream destination for anyone into the outdoor lifestyle, and it’s great to be part of it,” said Rice.

“Without a doubt it’s a big step for us. We’re expanding into new areas and the company is growing. As the company grows so does our requirement for staff, and we’re about to launch a major recruitment drive.

“It’s not just this new store we’re recruiting for but as our stores grow so does the infrastructure behind them so we’re looking at making a significant investment in people at our Gatwick head office and warehouse, too.”
