Ergon has announced two new additions to its MTB grip portfolio: the GMA and the GMS. Ergon says both grips are built on its unique Gravity Control Rubber Compound and decades of ergonomic research, with ‘silhouettes that enhance comfort and control on the trail.’
Ergon says the GMA and GMS are designed to suit riders across all aspects of all-mountain riding without compromise.
Hand discomfort, numbness, and fatigue remain some of the most common complaints among trail, e-MTB, and bikepacking riders, especially on longer rides. The GMA and GMS address these issues with an ergonomic approach, while sharing the same precision-tuned rubber compound and German engineering standards.
GMA—The MTB Allrounder
GMA replaces the GA2 as Ergon’s do-it-all grip for mountain bikers riding all types of trails, said to be playful on singletrack, confidence-inspiring on descents, and comfortable on the climb back up. Its tapered ergonomic shape narrows towards the inside of the hand for precise thumb and palm feel, while widening towards the outside for added cushion and comfort.
A new thumb recess and outer stop create a more uniform contact area, reduce pressure spikes, and ergonomically support the hand in rough terrain—while also allowing fingers to easily reach shifters, droppers, and other bar-mounted controls.
The GMA’s underside texture is directly inspired by Ergon’s GDH series, with raised ribs and finger guides that improve grip and support proper hand position, while the topside uses Ergon’s new Smart Texture Rhythm, which dampens vibration through a precise pattern of structures in the rubber. Laser-etched indices on the CNC’d aluminium clamp let riders fine-tune rotational positioning to their personal preferences and riding style.
The GMA FAT (34mm) applies the same engineering to a 2mm larger diameter for riders with bigger hands and those wanting more cushion. Its increased rubber volume boosts damping, making it ideal for bikepacking and longer rides, where a more cushioned feel that’s balanced with precise control is essential.
GMS—Ergonomic Comfort and Support, Redesigned
The GMS succeeds the GA3 as Ergon’s ergonomic mini-wing grip, continuing the brand’s tradition of iconic design to combat finger numbness and hand or wrist pain that can be caused by a round grip’s limited contact area. While a traditional grip concentrates the rider’s weight on a small part of the palm, which can irritate the ulnar nerve and compress the wrist’s blood vessels and median nerve, the GMS’s integrated mini-wing increases the grip’s contact area, distributing pressure more evenly across the palm and providing direct support for the wrist.
The mini-wing itself has been reshaped from GA3 to GMS: a smoother, trapezoidal shape creates a more consistent outer contour, while a curved profile sloping gradually toward the clamp follows the hand’s natural shape more closely than its predecessor, enhancing both pressure distribution and control. As with the GMA, a laser-etched scale on the clamp allows riders to fine-tune the grip’s angle for their own riding stance, since proper positioning is essential for the wing to relieve pressure.
Additionally, the GMS, like GMA, is built using the same Gravity Control Rubber Compound, with a unique Smart Texture Rhythm that increases cushioning toward the outer palm for increased flexibility across the rubber compound and more comfort, while being more compactly spaced near the clamp for a higher tactile feel and reduced wear.
The result is a ‘grip suitable for trail riding, e-MTB, bikepacking, touring, and everyday singletrack alike.’
The GMS is available in two sizes—Small (31mm) and Large (33mm). Riders can match grip diameter to their hand size, as well as wing support.
