ENVE CEO gets to the hub of the matter

ENVE Composites is best known for its aero wheels, and the CEO of the US company believes there’s no better way to outfit such wheels than to produce its own hub. And not just a strong, lightweight hub but a patent-pending one made fully from carbon The ENVE Road Hub weighs 235 grams for front and rear combined, and has Ceramic Speed bearings and DT Swiss internals. Eurobike is the trade launch for the hub although it had its debut in the wheels used by MTN-Qhubeka Steve Cummings who won a stage of this year’s Tour de France.

ENVE makes its carbon products in Ogden, Utah. CEO Sarah Lehman joined ENVE in 2010 (when it was called Edge Composites) and brought the $2.8 million company back from the brink of bankruptcy. It now has revenues of almost $30 million and exports to 30 countries.

“ENVE makes the strongest, lightest, most durable wheels on the planet,” she said. “And now we’ve now got hubs that complement those kind of wheels.”

Lehman comes from a biotech background, having been team leader for one of Pfizer’s antihistamines.

At ENVE, she’s hands-on, riding her company’s products, especially the mountain bike wheels. (Utah is blessed with world-class MTB trails.)

“I love the bike industry,” she said. “It’s a passion industry.”
