Brand raises the game with high tech quality checks

Eddy Merckx to CT-scan carbon frames and forks

Eddy Merckx Cycles is upping the ante for its quality checks by introducing CT-scans for its high-end carbon forks and frames.

By doing so the brand seeks to demonstrate its commitment to quality and the reason why it can offer a Strict Lifetime Warranty on all bikes in its range.

CT scans (Computed Tomography, using X-ray technology) of the forks and frames will be carried out during both the R&D (Research & Development) and QC (Quality Control) phases. "As a result, riders can have complete confidence as they push themselves to the limit on their Eddy Merckx racing bikes," the firm said.

So what kind of things can CT scans of forks and frames pinpoint? Points like:

  • Is the tube wall as thick as it should be at all points? Are there any anomalies?
  • Are there any wrinkles in the lay-up?
  • Have the carbon layers bonded well? Is there any air between them?

These issues are difficult to detect without a CT scan, the brand says.

UK distribution partner for Eddy Merckx Cycles is 2pure.
