The Association of Bikeability Schemes – or TABS – has announced that its National Bikeability Conference will be lead sponsored by Deliveroo. The food delivery company has 15,000 self-employed riders on its books, some of whom are often criticised for flouting road rules.
The two-day conference, which is also being supported by Transport for London and Islington Council, will be attended by more than 180 Bikeability scheme managers and instructors from all over the country. This is the seventh consecutive year that the conference has been organised.
When they sign up online for the service would-be Deliveroo riders have to scroll through a number of Highway Code refresher slides but there is no on-road training and no monitoring of riders while they work.
Deliveroo MD Dan Warne said: "Rider safety is of paramount importance to us, so we’re really pleased to be sponsoring the conference and supporting the promotion of cycle training."
The company is also encouraging new riders in London to sign up to a Bikeability cycle skills session.
The conference will take place in Islington on 16th and 17th May with London’s walking and cycling commissioner Will Norman giving a keynote speech.
