Writtle University College and Team OnForm – both of Essex – have formed a partnership to enable students on the insitution’s cycling-performance degree to compete as part of a new cycling academy.
The students will be able to participate in organised cycling races and events, whilst receiving the support and guidance of industry and performance experts, said a joint statement.
WUC‘s cycling performance degree course leader Mark Walker has coached a number of world-class cyclists. He said: “It is an exciting opportunity for us to be partnering with Team OnForm and their highly experienced personnel. Our Cycling Performance degree is unique in that it provides students with the chance study a cycling-specific sports science degree whilst developing a career in cycling, whether that is in racing or the wider industry.
Team OnForm principal Simon Howes said: “Our partnership with Writtle University College and our focus on development has allowed us to create a team where staff, riders and sponsors can grow together. We believe it’s not about how strong you are or the number of races you’ve won; it’s about the right approach. Without it, you are not going to be able to achieve all you can.”
