Decathlon’s UK store portfolio now numbers north of 20 thanks to the forthcoming opening of a new shop in Crawley, part of the town’s regeneration.
According to the Crawley News, the new store will create 30 jobs when it opens in the summer, occupying multiple units and – in what may be significant – a town centre location for only the second time for Decathlon UK.
Decathlon’s multi-sport product range includes the well received B’Twin bike range. While still building its presence in the UK market, Decathlon is a huge retail concern, with 300 shops in its native France, 166 in China and 39 in Russia. There’s over 1,030 Decathlon stores worldwide.
Back in the UK, Decathlon is growing its presence through other means with grocer Asda.
Last spring the retailers teamed up for a trial offering a Decathlon click and collect service within Asda stores, starting in Watford. According to Retail Week, this was found to be a fruitful trial and will now be expanded into four more of Asda’s larger stores: Eastlands, Manchester; Huyton, Liverpool; Tamworth, Staffordshire and the cycleway-endowed Stevenage of Hertfordshire.
