Magnetic LED lights turn on when attached to steel frames. Project funded by Kickstarter.

Danish designers create magnetic LED light

Copenhagen Parts is part of Goodmorning Technology a Danish design agency that launched its first product two years ago. The Bike Porter is a handlebar/front rack combo and is sold worldwide. The group’s new product is a magnetic LED front and rear bike light that attaches by super-strong magnets. The project needs funding of $50,000 and is being micro-funded via Kickstarter. 338 people have pledged $13,000 so far and there’s almost a month left to gain the additional funding.

"Magnets and steel tubes were an obvious match," says the group’s Kickstarter page. "But to get it just right we’ve spent countless hours selecting the right components and perfecting the details so that the lights will fit to different frames and stay put. The prototypes have been tested for several months so as to make sure that they are easy to fit anywhere on the frame; have the right angle to optimize visibility to other road-users; and stay put, regardless of the road surface."

Bike shops who pledge $250 will get – by December – ten sets of lights plus a retail display stand.
