Danish bicycle ambassador speaks out at Edinburgh Festival of Cycling

Edinburgh will this year add a Festival of Cycling to its world-famous festival season.

Running June 15th to 23rd June, will showcase all aspects of bicycle culture and the host city, from rides and family activities to cultural events.

The full programme of events includes a keynote presentation – ‘Bicycle Culture by Design’ – on Saturday June 15th from Mikael Colville-Andersen, CEO of Copenhagenize Design Company, and often referred to as Denmark’s Bicycle Ambassador.

The urban mobility expert will discuss how cycling can be used as a way to make our cities more liveable. He’ll also showcase an exhibition of 50 Copenhagen cycling images during the festival.

Copenhagenize Design Company advises cities and governments around the world on how to transform their urban landscape for the better through bicycle planning and policy. Colville-Andersen also lectures around the world on how cities can – and should – re-establish the bicycle as a respected and accepted form of transport. Colville-Andersen is also behind the popular and influential cycling blogs www.copenhagenize.com and www.copenhagencyclechic.com.

Kim Harding, Director of Edinburgh Festival of Cycling, said: "We are delighted to have such an inspiring speaker as Mikael Colville giving a talk as part of the Festival and welcome the opportunity to show some of his pictures. We would also like to thank the Embassy of Denmark and the Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op for their support of these two events."
