(Cycling) Scotland wins at Wembley

Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland has scored two UK Event Awards at a prize giving ceremony at Wemley Stadium.

Cycling Scotland’s mass participation cycle ride was named Best Sport Event and managed to win the night’s biggest award too – the Event Management Grand Prix.

The event’s growth and success saw it attract a record 9,000 participants for the 2010 event, and then 14,000 in September this year when it joined forces with Sky Ride Glasgow.

Pedal for Scotland beat the Football Legends World Cup to take the Best Sports accolade, and for the Grand Prix prize beat the likes of Sky Sports, Adidas, O2, Santander and Nissan.

“I’m absolutely over the moon that freshnlo Pedal for Scotland has won these awards," enthused Cycling Scotland chief executive Ian Aitken. "The success of the event is all thanks to the participants, who not only make it such a fantastic celebration of cycling by turning out in such huge numbers, but also by telling us how to improve and develop the event.

"It’s now the third biggest participation event in Scotland, and this continued growth and success shows what a popular and mainstream activity cycling has become.”
