Got a favourite summer route and you want to ride it in the depths of winter? Film it at its best on a ride with a GPS unit and then create a video-embedded, gradient-realistic training route for your CycleOps Pro Trainer.
Users will also be able to download the favourite routes – and videos – of other users. Other trainers on the market charge extra for additional routes.
The Pro Trainer works with the CycleOps PowerBeam Pro rear-wheel trainer and the IC400 stationary bike.
Mapping and elevation data for the Pro Trainer is supplied by Google. The PowerBeam or IC400 can simulate grades of nearly 1 in 5.
The system will cost $349. PowerBeam Pro costs $1,299.
The Pro Trainer was unveiled to journalists on the first day of PressCamp at the Deer Valley resort in Utah.
Journalists were also provided with test units of the new PowerCal HRM power meter, a gateway unit into the world of power. The PowerCal’s algorithms work out-of-the-box and while the measured power isn’t as accurate as via cranks or the hub, it’s close enough for those wishing to measure power on a budget. The PowerCal retails for $99.
