The Volvo Safety Jacket design scoops award in London College of Fashion

Cycle safety jacket lights up at night and includes auto indicators

How about a cycle jacket that lights up when it senses the dark, includes auto-indication lights and features an anti-collision sensor to alert drivers and cyclists of danger?

The Volvo Safety Jacket comes in three designs and include all of the above features, plus a Volvo tracker so cyclists can communicate and keep track of each other in groups.

The futuristic jacket is not in production, but was one of winning design in a collaboration between the London College of Fashion and Volvo Car UK for a design, media, branding and merchandising partnership project – all as part of a promo around the newly launched XC90.

The anti-collision sensor presumably is the one unveiled at the end of last year, which Volvo launched at the Vegas CES.

The three jackets were the ‘Commuter’ – in a classic, tailored style with wearable technology including reflective panels and fibres; ‘Competitive’ for keen cyclists featuring reflective panels, waterproofing and aerodynamic technology and ‘Weekender’, a casual jacket with a relaxed fit.
