Millionaire Mark Allen, MD of A&D Media Ltd of Salisbury, publisher of 'Cycle Industry', blames the "demise of Raleigh in Nottingham" and "the current difficult economic time" on his decision to turn what was once a monthly A4 publication into a quarterly broadsheet

‘Cycle Industry’ ceases monthly publication

Mark Allen, also the MD of Mark Allen Publishing Ltd., publisher of many medical trade titles, said:

"Regrettably, we have concluded that, at the current difficult economic time, with the demise of Raleigh in Nottingham the latest casualty, there is not enough money in the market to sustain ‘Cycle Industry’ as a regular monthly controlled-circulation magazine serving the cycle trade.

"We have decided to revamp ‘Cycle Industry’ into a quarterly broadsheet newspaper which will appear in its new format in July. We believe that this step recognises the reality of the market place."

BicycleBusiness, the magazine fueling this website, remains as a monthly title and has recently upped its pagination in order to accomodate extra advertisements.

‘Cycle Industry’ was formerly edited by Carlton Reid, editor/publisher of Bikebiz.co.uk and BicycleBusiness, but his company was sacked from the production of ‘Cycle Industry’ in order for Mark Allen’s magazine to be produced in-house by the editor of Allen’s golf trade magazine. BicycleBusiness was founded after the loss of the ‘Cycle Industry’ contract.

‘Cycle Industry’ may be ceasing monthly publication but A&D Media’s Cyclists’ Sourcebook is still going to be produced as an annual, said Allen. It will be published at the end of March and will contain international address listings. It costs £25 and an order form was enclosed with the letter informing readers that ‘Cycle Industry’ was to cease as a monthly.
