CORE BIKE 2010 GUIDE: 2pure and Buffera

2PURE
Debuted at the Cycle Show in October, 2pure is once again going to give the trade a chance to ogle its newly added Ibis brand.

The latest edition of the flagship Ibis Mojo uses the best in technologically advanced design, engineering, materials and construction to bring you an elegant and efficient ride suitable for a wide variety of terrain and conditions. In short, this beautiful frame is a rider’s dream and highly sought after with bike-savvy consumers. Featuring 140mm of travel in an ultra-light yet super tough carbon chassis, there is little on the trails that can match the Mojo. The DW Link suspension offers up a controlled system that not only allows owners to bomb singletrack, but also gets them back to the top with ease. Available in four colours, and a raw carbon with a choice of build kits, there is a Mojo for everyone.

At Interbike the Ibis Mojo was voted best full suspension, all MTB, of 2009 by the readers of MTBR.com for the third year running.

As at last year’s show, Crank Brothers is bound to be the centre of attention. The Cobalt wheels are joined by the Sage freeride wheels, Opium downhill wheels and Iodine all-mountain wheels.

Each of them carry the brand’s two-year warranty and have a ‘built tough’ reputation, so dealers need not fear returns.

For example, the Opium downhill rims feature an uninterrupted central rib – resulting in an amazingly strong, yet lightweight wheel. The rims are tubeless compatible and are 24mm wide. The hub utilises six oversized pawls with alternating three-pawl engagement. Butted Sapim stainless steel spokes feature across the range.

Look out for a ray of light when wandering Whittlebury Hall – you’ll then surely be near the 2pure room, where NiteRider’s light range will be blinding the retail crowds with hundreds, if not thousands of lumens.

Perhaps offering the most light on the market, Niterider’s 1,200 lumen top-of-the-range light gives out roughly the same light as many modern car headlights. The Pro 1200 houses two LEDs that sit within two reflectors. One reflector acts as a ‘spotlight’ and the other as a ‘floodlight’. The resulting beam pattern is a perfect blend of both. The Pro 1200 also features NiteRider’s unique D.I.Y Software – which allows the user to define their own specs.

Emitting half the light, but at a reduced cost, Nightrider’s Pro 600 is highly adaptable and as such can be mounted on a helmet, or handlebar. Custom-built optics make this one of the best night riding lights available with one of the best beam patterns.

2pure will also be dressing its stand with DeMarchi’s clothing. Retailers looking for a new clothing brand to sell through 2010 should take a look at the ‘Contour’ garments. Try on the ‘Racing Jacket’ at the show and you’ll get a feel for the amount of work that has gone into weatherproofing and, most importantly, the flexible fit of DeMarchi’s items.

Pedro’s Tools will get an outing too. Having firmly placed the brand among the best available in the UK, 2pure will give pride of place to the MTK 64-tool box set. Each tool has a lifetime warranty and comes housed within a military grade ABS plastic case with custom tool pallets.

BUFFERA

Buffera has begun to expand its popular SueMe line, which was previewed at last year’s show. The autumn 2009 range currently being sold features a number of well thought out items for the working cyclist.

The SueMe WorkPants come in sizes ranging from 32 to 38 in either a standard or long leg length. One of the first features customers may be attracted to is the comfort provided by the 100 per cent organic cotton, which is treated with a low-impact carbonic finish for a softer feel on the skin.

The fabric weight is designed to give optimal balance between cool and warm weather wear. Designed for work, rest and play, the 3D cut and fit incorporates a pre-shaped knee while engineered and repositioned inside leg seams avoid rubbing and wear. The resulting flat panel crotch and inside leg gives improved fit, durability and comfort.

For the more casual look, SueMe has also created a hooded sweatshirt, which comes in sizes small to extra large for men and small to large for women. Again, soft durable fabrics are used and all printing is done via water-based inks that stay soft and age well with the product. Details include two rear zip pockets with zip closures, a zipped leg pocket, two large front pockets, wide belt loops, a SueMe branded metal stud waistband closure, zip fly and, finally, a discreet printed branding on the inside of the waistband.

The flagship Buff product will of course be on show, though even the SueMe brand has its own printed Buff garment.

Cyclone Buff is the latest development from the Buffera camp. As part of the winter collection, the brand has added extra material to its traditional Buff, putting an elastic section on the base of the garment. This is in place to give the wearer a better seal against the wind. The microfibre fabric section of Cyclone Buff is now 15 per cent longer to improve its versatility in extreme weather conditions and the shape of the windstopper section has changed to fit better inside a jacket. As with any other Buff, the Cyclone is multifunctional and can be worn in a variety of ways.

Of the more luxurious items that the brand offers, retailers should try out the Merino wool Buff. Made from 100 per cent natural wool from Merino sheep, this fibre is super soft on the skin and has some clever properties. The material naturally regulates body temperature, cooling when too hot and retaining warmth when the temperature drops. Although machine washable, the garment material doesn’t hang on to odours. What’s more, it offer great UV protection properties and repels moisture.

One per cent of all proceeds from sales of this item are donated to a number of non-Governmental environmental charities.
