Amsterdam ruled the roost in the first two outings for the bi-annual Copenhagenize Index – will it remain as the world’s best ranked city for cycling? We’ll find out tomorrow when the Copenhagenize Design Co. and WIRED Magazine partner to reveal the top cycling cities in the third edition of the Copenhagenize Index.
Five cities have fallen out of the top 20. An American city has muscled its way into the top 20. The full results will be published on Copenhagenize and Wired.
Copenhagenize Design Co.’s methodology involves a detailed investigation of 122 global cities. 13 indicators are used which scrutinise the politics, advocacy, facilities, and infrastructure available for cycle users. Points accumulate for each indicator and then bonus points are assigned bonus points for exceptional activities. The Top 20 cities are published. Three continents and 14 countries are represented in this year’s Top 20.
Copenhagenize CEO Mikael Colville-Andersen said: “The bicycle makes sense in cities. Investment in bicycle infrastructure is a modern and intelligent move for a city to make.
