Commuter backpack with LED lights seeks backing on Indiegogo

Lumos of India, maker of a solar backpack, is now crowdfunding for the Aster, a bike commute backpack with brake lights, front shoulder lights, and turn signals. Gandharv Bakshi and his colleagues have already raised $14,749, or 29 percent of a $50,000 goal. The campaign has been placed on Indiegogo and all of the funds raised, whether the target is reached or not, will be drawable by Lumos.

The Aster backpack – which is one of the first products on Indiegogo to have a "prototype verified" tag – has a bright red light on the back and a profile light on either side of the bag. The backpack also has an inbuilt accelerometer in a handlebar unit and senses when you slow down and flares the solid red 30-LED brake lights. Aster also has built-in indicators, operated from the handle-bar unit.

Aster’s light settings can be modified via the Lumos Aster smartphone app.

The backpack has a helmet holder, a whistle buckle, tuck-away U-lock holder loops, zippered bottle pockets, and a rain-cover.
