Sutton High Street store - Pearson Cycles - still going strong

Claimed ‘world’s oldest bike shop’ turns 150

Pearsons Cycles of Sutton, said to be the world’s oldest bike shop, has reached its 150th anniversary.

Having been on the town’s High Street since 1860, the shop set up as a general blacksmith by a young Thomas Pearson.

From the early 1900s, Harry Pearson, Thomas’ son took over the business and dedicated it solely to the sale and repair of bicycles.

Today the store is run by Pearson brothers Guy and William – the fifth generation of the family to take the reigns.

Yourlocalguardian.co.uk has an in depth look at the store’s history as well as comment from the Pearson brothers.
