Bicycle retail chain Evans Cycles has seen BMX sales double for the second year in a row.
The retailer, which picked up the High Street Retailer prize at the BikeBiz Awards last night, has seen early season demand up 100 per cent on 2008 and is therefore expecting a BMX sales surge for Christmas.
Evans Cycles MD Mike Rice said: "Why wouldn’t you have a BMX bike on the Wishlist this year?
"They’re possibly the most fun you can have on two wheels and from a parents point of view kids riding around on BMXs all day gets them off the couch and keeps them fit and active."
The retail chain picked out its five top BMX brands; Wethepeople, Mongoose, GT BMX, Fit Bike Co and Verde.
Evans’ BMXpert Stuart Read selected two models expected to be popular in the run up to Christmas: "Having produced BMX’s for over three decades, Mongoose knows how to make a great BMX at a great price. The Mongoose Subject is the ideal bike for any new BMXer looking to start shredding the parks, trails and streets. Complete with a set of pegs and a Gyro, you can start learning anything you want from the moment you get your hands on it. It looks the part and it won’t break the bank."
Reade added: "WeThePeople are without doubt one of the industry leaders when it comes to complete BMX bikes. Great looks, great specs and amazing attention to detail. The WTP Reason ticks all the boxes. Experienced riders will appreciate the big bars, three piece cranks, 25-9 ratio gearing, pivotal seat, integrated seat post, mid bottom bracket, the list goes on, and all under the £350 mark. Two colours available, and both look superb. With limited stock these won’t hang around long."
