Cycling superstar – and all-round nice chap – Chris Boardman has become a patron of cycle recycling charity Re~Cycle.
Boardman is the charity’s first (and only) patron. The Olympic medalist and cycling ambassador said: “I am delighted to have been asked to become Re~Cycle’s patron as I love the simple benefits of its work sending bicycles to Africa.”
Re~Cycle founder and CEO Merlin Matthews said: “It is a great honour to deepen what I am sure will be a long association with Chris, who has been an active supporter for a number of years.”
Matthews added: “As a cyclist, Chris really ‘gets’ what we do. Cyclists know how useful bikes are, how much they can carry and the difference they can make to people’s lives.
“We are looking forward to working with Chris to increase the profile of Re~Cycle and get more people involved in our work.”
And, before anybody asks, yes, Merlin is Mr Matthews’ birth name: his mum was a hippy.
