Hamsterley Forest Mountain Bike Centre Business Opportunity Invitation to tender

Expressions of interest are being sought for the following business opportunity.

Location & Forest site information Hamsterley Forest is located near Bishop Auckland, the forest is already established as a main venue for Mountain Biking in the North East of England.

Hamsterley Forest is 2000 hectares in size and attracts visitors for many recreational reasons including mountain biking. Over 180k visitors visit the forest currently each year, visitors come from not only the North- East area, but from the wider national area. Managed by Forestry Commission England, Hamsterley Forest is part of Kielder Forest District.

Mountain bike trail network within the forest has been upgraded recently via a partnership phase 1 project. A phase 2-mountain bike trail development programme is currently being developed as part of an overall Hamsterley Forest recreational development project.

Business Opportunity are as follows Develop existing MTB hire centre location by: Hire mountain bikes to general public including children. Provide cycles for sale. Sale of cycle accessories, equipment and clothing Provide guiding service to general public. Repair of cycles on site. Provide Bike Wash service.

On Site Hamsterley has the following on site services. Forest Shop Forest Café Forest Classroom FC Forest Ranger service. Outdoor Educational Centre.

Period of license to operate on site.

New license for the successful tendering business will run from 1st April 2006 – 31st March 2009, at which time the business licence will be tendered to the open market.
