Retired British boxer Gary Mason has died in a cycling crash in South London, on Thursday January 6th.
According to this BBC report, Mason was pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a van. The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and bailed until March pending further inquiries.
The heavyweight boxer fought 38 times as a professional and was beaten only once but future world heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Officers were alerted at about 6.15am yesterday to a van in collision with a bicycle on Sandy Lane South, near the junction with Woodcote Road, Wallington.
"The cyclist, aged 48 years, was pronounced dead at the scene."
