Just a few months after announcing the appointment of Patrick Blake as UK Market Manager, Boyd Cycling has released the Podium 36mm Carbon Disc SL Wheelset; a lightweight, wide-rim carbon road wheelset designed as, “a true one-wheelset solution for modern road and all-road cyclists,” according to the US brand.
With a 36mm rim depth, 24mm internal width, fast-engaging Grade 54 hubs, and a 1130g total weight, Boyd Cycling claims the Podium 36mm Carbon Disc SL delivers “race-ready performance without sacrificing stability, durability, or ride quality for everyday use.”
“The Podium 36 is the definition of modern versatility,” said Boyd Johnson, Founder of BOYD Cycling. “It’s light enough for climbing, stiff enough for sprinting, stable on descents, and durable enough to ride every day. This is the wheelset most riders actually need.”
Built for Modern Road & All-Road Riding

Designed around real-world tyre sizes, the Podium 36mm features a 29mm external / 24mm internal hooked carbon rim optimised for 28–38mm tubeless or tubed tyres. Boyd Cycling claims that the result is improved comfort, traction, and confidence across long rides, rough roads, and fast group efforts.
The 36 Road Disc SL features an advanced carbon rim that only weighs 310 grams, using Aerospace T1000-grade carbon fiber in the bead hook area and spoke hole reinforcements, which aims to increase impact resistance and structural integrity where stresses are highest.
The wheelset also utilises multi-angle spoke hole reinforcement, aiming to distribute spoke tension forces across multiple directions. According to Boyd Cycling, this then allows for higher, more stable spoke tension without adding unnecessary mass.
During curing, molding air pressure exceeding 210 PSI is used to create a more compact rim wall with even resin distribution throughout the structure. And, the resulting laminate maintains an optimised 72/28 fiber-to-resin ratio, which according to the brand, improves strength-to-weight efficiency and consistency across every rim.
These design and manufacturing choices allow the rim to withstand over 110 joules of impact force. This is more than 2.5× the UCI impact testing requirement.
Lightweight, Fast, and Confidence-Inspiring

At just 1130 grams per set, Boyd Cycling claims that the Podium 36mm Carbon Disc SL delivers rapid acceleration and climbing efficiency without compromising stability at speed or under power.
“As a sprinter pushing 1800-2000 watts, I expected a wheelset this light to feel sketchy—but I couldn’t have been more wrong,” said Ben Renkema. “They’re incredibly stiff, snap forward instantly, and feel unbelievably smooth at speed. These wheels completely redefined what a lightweight wheelset can be.”
At the heart of the 36 Road Disc SL is Boyd’s new Grade 54 ratchet hub system, which features 6.6° engagement, tool-free service, and quick-swap freehub bodies compatible with Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo drivetrains.
Weighing just 85 grams for the front and 185 grams for the rear, the Grade 54 Hubs spin on Enduro ABEC-5 bearings for rolling performance and bearing longevity.
Tested, Proven, and Rider-Approved

Designed for riders who want one wheelset that truly does it all, the Podium 36mm Carbon Disc SL has quickly become a go-to choice for racing, training, endurance rides, and mixed-surface adventures.
“This wheelset is the true N+1 killer—it does everything,” said endurance rider Paddy Blake. “It climbs effortlessly, feels rock-solid on descents, shrugs off rough roads, and is fast enough to beat deeper wheels. It’s become my default for every ride.”
Hand-built using straight-pull aero spokes, alloy nipples, and a 2.8mm offset rim bed, each wheelset balances spoke tension for long-term durability while maintaining a responsive, race-ready feel.
The wheels come with an MSRP of $2,100 USD/ £1,860GBP / €2,150 EUR. The GBP and EUR prices include 20% VAT. They will be available in 700c size only, and disc (centrelock) brake compatibility. They will also come with tape and valves pre-installed.
