Patrick McLoughlin remains as transport secretary.

Boris bicycles to No 10 to be told he can attend cabinet

Newly elected MP Boris Johnson pedalled to 10 Downing Street this morning to be told he won’t be getting a plum Government job – just yet. He will, however, attend David Cameron’s political cabinet – Boris will also continue as the Mayor of London until elections in May 2016. It’s rumoured that Boris wanted a cabinet position involved with infrastructure.

Before the election David Cameron said Boris had “big vision about projects that can really transform a city and a country” and “we want to make sure we’ve got his vision and expertise harnessed to the government.”

Cameron has been announcing the new ministers in his wholly Tory government. The role of transport secretary has not changed: it’s still Patrick McLoughlin. However, the junior ministerial roles have yet to be announced.
